From Virgil’s Aeneid to Dante’s Inferno, the philosophy of Leopardi and the word games of Calvino, the Italian peninsular has produced some of the greatest works ever written. These six lectures span the whole history of Italian literature, covering Ancient Rome, the Renaissance, Romanticism and the Risorgimento, twentieth-century Modernism and Post-Modernism.
Henry will introduce you to an array of extraordinary and eccentric authors and recommend where to start reading their spectacular works.
About the Tutor
Henry Eliot is an editor of the Penguin Classics series and the author of The Penguin Classics Book and The Penguin Modern Classics Book. He is also the presenter of the podcast On the Road with Penguin Classics. He has written a book about mazes called Follow This Thread and a book about London, Curiocity, which Philip Pullman described as the “most ingenious, insightful, inspiring, intoxicating, and simply interesting guide to the great city that I have ever seen”.
