A Drink with The Idler | Adam Higginbotham on the Challenger disaster
£7.50
Join “A Drink with the Idler” as we chat with Adam Higginbotham on a true story of heroism and disaster on the edge of space.
Based on extensive archival research and meticulous, original reporting, Challenger by Adam Higginbotham follows a handful of central protagonists – including the doomed crew and senior executives at the centre of the crisis – through the years leading up to the accident, the shuttle explosion itself and the investigation that followed. Challenger brings to life a turning point in our history. The result is an even more complex and extraordinary story than any of us remembered – or thought possible.
The discussion between Adam and Idler editor Tom Hodgkinson will be followed by a live Q&A, and the Idler Academy’s Head of Philosophy Dr Mark Vernon will present a short “thought for the week” to get our brains fizzing. The event will be hosted by Idler Academy director Victoria Hull.
This is an online event. It should be like meeting up in the pub for an interesting conversation. We leave the meeting open at the end so you can carry on chatting.
Adam Higginbotham writes for The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, Wired, GQ and The Observer. He began his career in magazines and newspapers in London, where he was the editor-in-chief of The Face and a contributing editor at The Sunday Telegraph. Also the author of Midnight in Chernobyl, he lives in New York City.
Tom Hodgkinson is editor of the Idler and author of the best-selling manuals, How to Be Idle and How to Be Free. Other publications include a book on parenting, the Ukulele Handbook and a manual for creative entrepreneurs, Business for Bohemians.
