A Drink with the Idler| Amy Matthews on Comedy

£7.50

Join “A Drink with the Idler” as we chat to comedian Amy Matthews about comedy and a comedian’s life

Idler Festival goers will know Amy Matthews from her fantastic set this year. At “A Drink with the Idler” we’ll be asking her what life is like for a comedian travelling on the comedy circuit.  Expect insights on the difference between Gen Z and Millennials along the way.

Described by Broadway World as “Lily Allen meets Kate McKinnon” Amy is a comedic force, weaving in and out of wry despair and whimsical imagination. She has been seen and heard on the BAFTA-award-winning Scot Squad, Radio 4, BBC Radio Scotland and 5 Live, and is a writer on Have I Got News for You.

The discussion between Amy and Idler editor Tom Hodgkinson will be followed by a live Q&A when you will be given the chance to ask Amy your own questions.

We’ll have a philosophical “Thought for the Week” from Dr Mark Vernon and the event will be hosted by Idler Academy director Victoria Hull.

This is an online event. It should be like meeting up in the pub for an interesting conversation. We leave the meeting open at the end so you can carry on chatting.

Amy Matthews is a stand-up comedian, whose intelligent, distinctive and warm style has seen her become a firm favourite on the live comedy circuit. She has performed several critically acclaimed shows at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, including ‘I Feel Like I’m Made of Spiders’ and last year’s ‘Commute with the Foxes’ which was followed by a UK tour and saw Amy included in The List’s Hot 100. Amy has also been tour support for comedians Ed Byrne, Tom Allen, Tom Davis and Suzi Ruffell.

Tom Hodgkinson is editor of the Idler and author of the best-selling manuals, How to Be Idle and How to Be Free. Other publications include a book on parenting, the Ukulele Handbook and a manual for creative entrepreneurs, Business for Bohemians.
