Join A Drink with the Idler for an online discussion with Emma Southon on the alternative history of the Romans

In her new book, A History of the Roman Empire in 21 Women, Emma Southon tells the other side of Roman history, through Vestal Virgins and sex workers, business owners and poets, empresses and saints. Southon traces the lives of twenty-one women, following them in war, forbidden love, sedition and natural catastrophe (plus the odd Bacchic orgy).

“Southon has a rare gift… Those left cold by the sober tones of scholarship will find this voice liberating and intoxicating. Its energy is boundless and its range immense.” Wall Street Journal

Emma will be chatting to Tom Hodgkinson, editor of the Idler, and the discussion will be followed by a live Q&A. Your host will be Idler Academy director Victoria Hull.

A Drink with the Idler is free for Idler magazine and Academy members who can register here.

This is an online event. It should be like meeting up in the pub for an interesting conversation. We leave the meeting open at the end so you can carry on chatting.
