A Drink with the Idler | Guy Standing on the Education Industry
£7.50
Join “A Drink with the Idler” as we chat to economist Guy Standing on how to revive the Education Industry
Does the education system make better people? Why are so many – teachers and students alike – stressed and dissatisfied? Do we need to revive real education?
Join us as we chat to Guy about his new book, Human Capital: The Tragedy of the Education Commons. Guy was a programme director in the UN’s International Labour Organisation and has advised many international bodies and governments on social and economic policies. Human Capital, the concluding book in his series on the commons, charts how the education industry has served commercial interests, not its teachers and students, and what we can do revive it for societial good.
The discussion between Guy and Idler editor Tom Hodgkinson will be followed by a live Q&A when you will be given the chance to ask Guy your own questions.
We’ll have a philosophical “Thought for the Week” from Dr Mark Vernon and the event will be hosted by Idler Academy director Victoria Hull.
This is an online event. It should be like meeting up in the pub for an interesting conversation. We leave the meeting open at the end so you can carry on chatting.
