A Drink with The Idler | John Lewis-Stempel on England’s Natural History in 12 Habitats

John Lewis-Stempel

£7.50

Join “A Drink with the Idler” as we chat with John Lewis-Stempel on an exploration of the distinctive habitats that define the English landscape

England’s landscape is iconic, a tapestry of differing environments that together make up a country unique in its rich diversity of flora and fauna. Discussing his new book England: A Natural History, author John Lewis-Stempel will take us through each habitat in turn, leading us from estuary to park, chalk downland to woodland, river to field, village to moor, lake to heath, fen to coastal cliffs.

The discussion between John and Idler editor Tom Hodgkinson will be followed by a live Q&A, and the Idler Academy’s Head of Philosophy Dr Mark Vernon will present a short “thought for the week” to get our brains fizzing. The event will be hosted by Idler Academy director Victoria Hull.

This is an online event. It should be like meeting up in the pub for an interesting conversation. We leave the meeting open at the end so you can carry on chatting.

John Lewis-Stempel is a farmer and “Britain’s finest living nature writer” (the Times). His books include the Sunday Times bestsellers Woodston, The Running Hare and The Wood. He writes regularly for Country Life, the Times and the Countryman magazine, and writes features for the Sunday Express. In 2016, he was named Magazine Columnist of the Year for his column in Country Life. He farms cattle, sheep, pigs and poultry. Traditionally.

Tom Hodgkinson is editor of the Idler and author of the best-selling manuals, How to Be Idle and How to Be Free. Other publications include a book on parenting, the Ukulele Handbook and a manual for creative entrepreneurs, Business for Bohemians.
