Join “A Drink with the Idler” as we chat with comedian and political satirist Rosie Holt

The comedian and writer Rosie Holt is best known for her viral videos skewering the British political landscape. Since 2020, her parody videos have garnered more than 6.5 million views. Her MP alter ego is not only amusing but also convincing; one party member even asked her to resign! Her book, Why We Were Right by Rosie Holt MP, has just been published by Ebury. We’ll be chatting to Rosie about political satire, being a viral comedian, and how Rosie Holt MP is navigating life after the election, having recently crossed the floor from Conservative to Labour.

The discussion between Rosie and Idler editor Tom Hodgkinson will be followed by a live Q&A, and the Idler Academy’s Head of Philosophy Dr Mark Vernon will present a short “thought for the week” to get our brains fizzing. The event will be hosted by Idler Academy director Victoria Hull.

Rosie Holt is an actor and writer best known for her viral internet videos on twitter skewering the political landscape since the pandemic. Her videos have achieved more than 9 million views. She is the winner of the Chortle Social Media Award 2022 and is a BPG Emerging Creator Nominee. She attended drama school at LAMDA, where she gained a BA (Hons) in acting. Rosie was a finalist at the Amused Moose New Comic, Leicester Square New Comedian & Bath New Act awards. She has appeared on The Russell Howard Hour (Sky) Friday Night with Niall Paterson (Sky News) The News Quiz (Radio 4) Please Use Other Door (Radio 4) Ashley Blaker 6.5 Children ( Radio 4) and performed in the critically acclaimed two-hander theatre show The Crown Live! with Brendan Murphy (The Gilded Balloon / Wilton’s Music Hall). Dr Mark Vernon is a psychotherapist, writer, broadcaster, and teacher. He presents several Idler Academy online courses. He has a PhD in philosophy, and degrees in theology and physics. His most recent books include The Idler Guide to Ancient Philosophy (Idler Books), Love: All that Matters (Hodder) and Jung: How to Believe (Guardian Shorts) – and he has books on friendship, belief and the good life too.
