A Drink with The Idler | Stephen Marche on Writing and Failure
£7.50
Join us for the first “Drink with the Idler” of 2024. We’ll be chatting online to author Stephen Marche about the one secret of being a writer that no one ever talks about.
In his new book, On Writing and Failure, writer Stephen Marche tells us that perseverance in the teeth of ongoing rejection is the essence of a writer’s life. Even the greatest of writers grapple with failure, he says, so no whining.
If you’re a writer, or want to be one, or used to be one, then you’ll find much enteratinment and comfort in Stephen’s book.
“I was considerably amused by Stephen Marche’s short but pungent book… I don’t recommend many books to (in Marche’s parlance) ‘kid writers.’ Certainly Lewis Hyde’s The Gift… Stephen King’s On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft… I now add On Writing and Failure,” Margaret Atwood
“More heartening than a thousand cheery Instagram posts,” Vanity Fair
Stephen will be chatting to Tom Hodgkinson, editor of the Idler, and the discussion will be followed by a live Q&A. Your host will be Idler Academy director Victoria Hull.
This is an online event. It should be like meeting up in the pub for an interesting conversation. We leave the meeting open at the end so you can carry on chatting.
