Beautiful games

Tom Hodgkinson | 14 Oct 2015 | Merriment

The joys of real-life games

If you went to any festivals in the UK this summer, you might have chanced upon a tent filled with excited children and adults playing noisy board games. Your heart may well have soared at the sight of people having fun while not staring at screens.

This would have been the stall of ET Games, a wonderful new company which launched with a fantastic wooden game called Pucket. This involves shooting wooden counters through a small hole into your opponent’s half of the board. It’s simple and addictive, and we’ve long been fans of it here at the Idler.

ET Games’ latest launch is a brilliant game called Bridget. It’s a kind of real-life Tetris, where the goal is to build a bridge from one side of the board to the other using satisfying wooden blocks, before your opponent does.

I play these games with my children and we all love them. There is always much whooping and hollering involved. It is such a wonderful relief to see them unplugged and happy.
