Idler of the Week: Nigel Mills MP

MP finds manipulating brightly coloured sweets more fun than pension reform debate

TORY MP Nigel Mills was caught by The Sun playing a game called Candy Crush Saga on his phone during a meeting on pensions reform.

We salute the Honourable Member for Amber Valley for distracting himself from the unutterable tedium of a boring meeting. By thus doing, he displayed his human side.

However, we’d suggest that in future classics graduate Mr Mills might like to release his fertile subconscious in meetings by doodling in a notebook. Playing mindless games on your phone is one thing, but meetings can also be used in a more productive fashion. Doodling has a long and distinguished history, and the act of scribbling nonsense while half-listening to besuited men drone on about targets has sustained many a dreamer through difficult times.

Candy Crush Saga, a game which involves rearranging rows of sweets, has been installed by over 500 million people on their phone or computer, though the game’s owner, King Digital, has seen its profits fall by 20% over the last quarter. King must therefore welcome the massive publicity boost for the game that The Sun has provided.

To congratulate Mr Mills for winning Idler of the Week, we’ll be sending him an Idler Calendar, which will give him a wealth of good ideas for using his meeting downtime in more productive ways than playing mindless rubbish.
