IF YOU’VE EVER come to a festival where the Idler Academy has installed itself, chances are you have seen the excellent David Bramwell give a talk on utopias he has visited or little known pranksters whose lives he has researched.
David’s interest in the fringes of culture has now found expression in a regular podcast, and we’re delighted to broadcast a selection for Idler readers right here. We particularly like the interview with KLF biographer, John Higgs.
The Odditorium Podcast
The Odditorium Podcast is a portal into the fringes of culture; its mavericks and pranksters, adventurers and linguists, artists, comics and, of course, its idlers. Each episode features a guest speaker recorded before a live audience, somewhere in the UK. Guests at the Odditorium come from all walks of life, our only prerequisite is that they speak with passion about a subject close to their heart. The Odditorium demonstrates what eclectic interests occupy us all. Episodes range from Sherlock Holmes, board games and the KLF to the history of the Martini and werewolf erotica.
The Odditorium is co-hosted by David Bramwell, a regular speaker and writer for the Idler. David is also a Sony award-winning BBC radio presenter, author of the No9 Bus to Utopia and creator of Brighton’s long-running spoken word night The Catalyst Club. His ill-prepared side-kick, David Mounfield, is best known as Jeffery from Radio 4’s Count Arthur Strong’s Radio Show. Thanks to the singular interests of the hosts, at the Odditorium you’ll also learn some fascinating biscuit facts and be asked to take part in some improbable competitions.
New episodes are released every fortnight.
