I RECENTLY ATTENDED a conference on self-employment at London’s RSA, or to give it its full name, the Royal Society for the Encouragement of the Arts, Manufactures and Commerce. This institution was founded in the late eighteenth century and is still encouraging arts and commerce to this day, and good for it! In its early incarnation it helped William Blake, among many other artists and tradespeople.
