The Idler Questionnaire: Terry Gilliam

30 Sep 2015 | Books

To celebrate the publication of his brilliant, hilarious, fizzing autobiography Gilliamesque: A Pre-posthumous Memoir, we put ten questions to the great Terry Gilliam.

1. Are you happy? No.

2. What are you reading? The Master and his Emissary by Iain McGilcrest, Redeployment by Phil Klay and We Meant Well by Peter Van Buren.

3. What was your worst job? Working the night shift at the Chevrolet assembly plant.

4. How many hours do you work each day? Most of them.

5. Town mouse or country mouse? I need both.

6. Does love bring happiness or unhappiness? It brings both. That’s why it’s a Damocles sword – it cuts both ways.

7. Mp3 or vinyl? CDs. Real book or ebook? Real book.

8. What are your three greatest pleasures? Being alive, being dead and being in-between.

9. Do you believe in the nap? No.

10. What advice do you have for young people? Don’t grow up.
