Perfect Day: Books, wine and sleep

From our readers | 19 Sep 2014 | Perfect Day

Idler reader Cecile Wilbers describes a perfect idling day.

The day began with me not having to take my daughter to kindergarten. While I heard husband and daughter having breakfast and hurrying outside, I just closed my eyes, turned around and slept for another hour and a half. I woke up again to a wonderfully quiet house, and took the time to finish rereading my favourite novel (Gide’s Immoralist) before getting up. After breakfast, I opened a new Word document and spent an hour or two writing about whatever came to my mind, with no purpose, just for fun. I met a friend for lunch (some wine drinking may have been involved there) then returned back home and watched a movie. At five, I picked up my daughter at kindergarten and we built a big duplo castle while husband was making dinner. The day ended with husband and me opening another bottle of wine, talking about the day, watching a Borgen episode and making plans for the weekend.
